NADA Protocol for addiction treatment in India- In retrospect

"NADA Protocol for addiction treatment in India- In retrospect "   poster was presented at 15 th National Conference of Acupuncture Association of India, 2012, New Delhi Authors Suneel Vatsyayan*   Dr. Ajay Vats**   V. Vindhya *** Abstract In the mid-1970s, Michael Smith, a medical doctor at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx area of New York, modified an existing system of auricular acupuncture into a simple technique for the treatment of many common drug addictions as an alternative to methadone. This selection of five ear points proved to be extremely effective in the treatment of addictions, and became what is now referred to as the “NADA protocol.” Dozens of studies have documented the effectiveness of the NADA protocol. Among the benefits reported by patients and health care providers are: improved retention in drug treatment programs; more optimistic attitudes about detoxification and recovery; reductions in cravings and anxiety;

Helena Schouenborg writes about her experiences at Freedom House Nepal

Acudetox has been used for more than a decade at Freedom House,Nepal  Helena Schouenborg  writes about her experiences at Freedom House Nepal :   . .....A few weeks before my journey was about to begin, I went to see the Director of the Lincoln Recovery Center and asked if he had any recommendations for my travels, since I knew he had spent many years in Asia. He had a critical expression on his face but suddenly gave in, and gave me contact details of friends of his in India and Nepal. I was very excited. He looked more concerned than satisfied. In September 2010, my journey finally began from New York to India, through Malaysia, Singapore and Nepal. In Nepal I met Rajendra, the director of Freedom House, a rehabilitation center for men. Freedom House is an in-patient facility for men, located in Katmandu, with beautiful surroundings. The clients stay at the facility as long as they can afford, but usually up to 3 months at a time. It was a big beautiful house

DARE works directly with Burmese ethnic communities to provide development and to strengthen addiction education and has been using ear-acupuncture (NADA Protocol) as an adjunct treatment

There are currently no other addiction prevention education, treatment, relapse prevention programs on the border.  Burma is one of the biggest illicit producers of opium, heroin and methamphetamines in the world.  Estimates of addiction rates in the ethnic areas of Burma range from 40 – 85% of the total population.  The majority of ethnic young people of Burma are reported to be addicted to methamphetamines, alcohol, nicotine and other drugs.  The reasons for these high addiction rates are rooted in the social and economic systems of Burma . DARE works directly with Burmese ethnic communities to provide development and to strengthen addiction education and treatment within the ethnic communities, and has been using ear-acupuncture (NADA Protocol) as an adjunct treatment. Mr. Vatsyayan went to the border area of Burma and Thailand in March, 2005, representing Nada India Foundation to develop the links with  the organizations. He visited the de-addiction centers run by DA

From The Desk of Dr.Michael O.Smith...

Suneel Thanks for the The Hindu clipping .  You are competing with the mystification doctors who sell  their use of tiny points  to micromanage mental symptoms without ever involving the client’s own effort or understanding.  Continuity of relationship and change ...  The “new age” means you never have to grow up... The election preparation here is beyond expensive and they are finding ways to disqualify millions of ineligible voters.  To my observation the system in India is much more fair....                 MIKE

A new approach to life...

Today's Paper » FEATURES » METRO PLUS August 11, 2012 A new approach to life Health An alternate therapy to kick your old habits that die hard It started with just one or two a day and now I can’t live without it. It relieves my stress and makes my mind alert. How often do we hear people say this when asked to quit smoking or any other addictive habit? For a few, what started off casually as a stress buster grips them so gradually that they don’t realise they are getting addicted. Many people desperately wish to release themselves from a toxic practice, whether it is alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual addiction, negative thinking, insomnia or depression. To address multiple issues on how to overcome numerous toxic habits, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol in association with 7-Radiations-SATCH (Sanctum of Alternate Therapies and Conscious Healing) will conduct a workshop for the first time in the city.

NADA ear acupuncture for Wellness and Preliminary relaxation before Yoga and Meditation class

Sh.Dharmanand ji in charge Adhyatam Sadhana Kendra in a acudetox based pre-meditation session   Dear Dharmanand ji, Thank you for allowing me and the Nada India Foundation to visit your temple   (Adhyatam Sadhana Kendra )   in this  February 2012  for Acudetox Trainings and acudetox sessions.  We conducted a small demonstration clinic on several afternoons, and ear acupuncture for wellness and preliminary relaxation before your evening yoga and meditation class.  Both activities seemed well received. It was a pleasure to be part of such a diverse healing environment, including your acupressure walk.     As an allopathic (Western medicine)  doctor by original training, I can tell you that the articles in “AdhyatmaYog” on heart disease are excellent.  We should all rely on basic good nutrition and simple health balancing procedures rather than focusing on high income mechanical techniques.  Your advice is just as valuable in the pseudo-developed worl
