Bengal hooch tragedy: More than 150 people died and 350 are in hospital Category:   Development ,  Family ,  Policy ,  Poverty ,  Prevention ,  Rehabilitation ,  Social costs ,  Youth Children Email Share on Twitter Share on Facebook The victims were mostly labourers, rickshaw-pullers and hawkers. A 12-year old girl is among the victims which is another concern for all of us. Two-thirds of the alcohol consumed in India is illegal hooch. Preliminary reports indicate that the hooch was sold in sachets, priced between Rs.7 and Rs.20, virtually opposite a police post in the area.  What the Government can offer as a compensation is Rs.two Lakhs to each victim family, what else? And society at large  will forget this tragedy too. In 2008 nearly 200 people died of similar alcohol poisoning in Bangalore, and 136 people died of the same cause in Gujarat state where alcohol use is banned by law. Acudetox camp at Bhim Basti South Delhi

Nada India along with C.P.Manaviya Trust organised a one day Health camp on 7th Nov2011 at Bhim Basti. Adolescent girls, women,senior citizens got their health check up. Dr.Ajay Vats NADA ,ADS lead the the Health camp. Prior to camp day community survey was conducted by Mr.Chandan, Mr.Punit Nada IGNOU interns. Kavita peer leader of radio club and vocational group mobilized the adolescents in the community.More than  125 people attended the camp. Acudetox sessions were conducted by Dr.Ajay NADA,ADS.   Alexander Daniel IPS  Additional Director General of Border Security Force and Mr.Suneel Vatsyayan and Mr.Panday community leader were also present through out the camp and encouraged the volunteers. G Manjusainath, Bangalore, May 6, DHNS: "….74 per cent of respondents from Bangalore said they take vitamins and supplements and 43 per cent of respondents from Bangalore said they use herbal or homeopathic remedies for their health and wellbeing, 52 per cent get acupuncture and 52 per cent practise Yoga.” This is one of the findings of the Philips Health and Wellbeing Index Report- 2011, a survey conducted by Philips Electronics India, which was made public recently. The report shows that 39 per cent of Bangaloreans approach mental health professionals as against the national average of nine per cent. Jaipur scores the lowest on this parameter at just two per cent. The report prepared by Philips India is based on a survey conducted among 6,300 respondents in the age group of 18-60 years across 32 cities and towns. Stress Management & Ear-acupuncture workshop at BSF Headquarters, Gandhinagar

A workshop was organized by Nada India Foundation at Border Security Force (BSF) Gujarat Frontier Headquarters, Gandhinagar on 29 January 2011. Before workshop began Dr. Michael O.Smith visionary and founder of NADA International and Suneel Vatsyayan Chairman of Nada India met with paramedics and nursing assistants. They said there were about 500 families living at that base. On asking what main complaints patients were presenting with, sleeplessness, headaches, cold and cough etc were the common presenting complaints. Suneelji then explained to them how this ear detoxification acupuncture works. That it was not for curative purpose but as preventive and preparing patient for further treatment.
