Acudetox Counseling Training workshop at Holistic Drug Rehab Center Chennai


Nada India Foundation in collaboration MSW Trust Chennai conducted workshop on Acudetox Counseling Training workshop on 19th Oct2013 .The workshop was conducted by Dr.Arun Kumar,NADA,ADS from PSG Hospital Coimbatore and facilitated by Suneel Vatsyayan, Chairman ,Nada India. Dr.Arun talked about use of ear acupuncture as per NADA Protocol for addiction treatment  and well being.


 The workshop aimed to facilitate a shared understanding of importance of inclusive barrier free services  for who avoid addiction treatment and skill in use ear acupuncture as an adjunct treatment at all stages of addiction treatment  (pre admission, detoxification and rehabilitation and after care).  Dr.Arun and Mr.Ravichandran NADA ADS were presented with Nada India Leadership Award 2013 for their contribution to the cause of acudetox in India.

This workshop at Holistic Rehab center also provided trainees with Acudetox counseling skills to use ear acupuncture (NADA Protocol three points) under general supervision of Dr.Arun Kumar ,NADA,ADS and Mr.Ravichandaran NADA ,ADS .Personally supervised training sessions enabled ADS trainees in building greater confidence in using treatment readiness  approach during Drug & Alcohol prevention outreach programs in dealing with people who avoid treatment.
Social worker,physicians,acupuncturist and nurses from drug rehabilitation centers and Central Prison Chennai  attended the workshop.

'NADA acupuncture is a public health model that adds a valuable component to the behavioral health fields', says Dr. Michael.O. Deborah Valentine Smith I recently attended an excellent webinar on t he African American History of Acupuncture by  Dr.  Tenisha Dandridge, hosted by Acupuncturists without Borders. The history of Lincoln Hospital and Lincoln Detox in the 1970’s was of special interest to me,  as I participated in much of it and may have a unique perspective, as I was married to Mike Smith at the time. While I appreciated much of the history shared in this Webinar, I can’t agree with a couple of the statements about Mike. The statement in Dr. Dandridge’s presentation that “he did not approve of the politics brought with the free clinics,” makes it sound like Mike did not approve of the free clinics themselves.
