DVD Unimagined Bridges: Ear Acupuncture Treatment for Disaster Trauma utilize the NADA 5-point ear acu

"Unimagined Bridges" is a DVD that connects tragedy and hope between people in all parts of the globe. Producer Laura Cooley is an acupuncturist from Texas who provided treatment and support for firemen and other rescue workers in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Large scale usage of ear acupuncture for trauma related crises began with efforts of Joan Dolan, a staff nurse treating alcoholics at St. Vincent's Hospital in lower Manhattan. On September 11, 2001 she began using the same 3-5 point ear acupuncture protocol for care-givers and survivors of the terrorist attack. The team of volunteers treated more than one thousand people in the next 10 days with very favorable results.

This ear acupuncture protocol is known as the NADA protocol after the U.S. organization, National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, which began at Lincoln Hospital (Bronx, NY) in 1974, There are now independent NADA organizations in 20 different countries.

NADA acupuncture is a balancing and relaxing experience. It helps person access inner resources, in the manner of meditation and yoga. The NADA provider can offer profound relief without knowing any of the specific issues facing the client. These treatments are given on a wellness basis. No diagnosis is required. The NADA protocol is easily taught to any responsible care giver in 1-2 weeks. The protocol can also be taught on an apprenticeship basis during the actual crisis. This procedure is far less risky than ear piercing. Infection control can be easily maintained. A treatment can be repeated daily for optimal effort. A supply of acupuncture needles can be stockpiled. Medical sterilization can be used in appropriate settings.

This DVD shows the history and rapid expansion of NADA acupuncture for integrated stress management programs. Acupuncture provides emergency relief, but many other counseling and support services are also indicated. It highlights Wendy Henry (U.S.) and Suneel Vatsyayan’s Nada team (India) providing large numbers of treatments and teaching for uniformed personnel in both countries over the past several years. The DVD also shows an extensive program for Burmese refugees. More than 20 have been trained in the NADA protocol. Recent newsletters describe similar successes in Kenya and the Philippines.
NADA ear acupuncture for disaster relief is a rapidly expanding worldwide phenomenon.

A statement about Michael Smith by his family

  * A statement about Michael Smith We are respectfully submitting this history as we, his family, experienced it. We hope it is helpful. Deborah Valentine Smith I recently attended an excellent webinar on t he African American History of Acupuncture by  Dr.  Tenisha Dandridge, hosted by Acupuncturists without Borders. The history of Lincoln Hospital and Lincoln Detox in the 1970’s was of special interest to me,  as I participated in much of it and may have a unique perspective, as I was married to Mike Smith at the time. While I appreciated much of the history shared in this Webinar, I can’t agree with a couple of the statements about Mike. The statement in Dr. Dandridge’s presentation that “he did not approve of the politics brought with the free clinics,” makes it sound like Mike did not approve of the free clinics themselves. Mike’s history as a medical student and doctor was all about free clinics. Mike started working with the Black Panther Party when he was a medical student in

Dr.Sinha emphasized the effect of NADA protocol on various NCDs such as diabetes, Hypertension & Insomnia.

Prof. T.K.Thomas  The annual World No Tobacco Day was observed on 31st May. The day is observed by the World Health Organization [WHO] and global partners as an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. This year’s focus for the day was, “Tobacco and lung health” . Everyone knows how tobacco affects our lungs. The WHO release says, the campaign will increase awareness on, “the negative impact that tobacco has on people’s lung health, from cancer, to chronic respiratory diseases”. There are frightening figures about the mortality attached to tobacco related diseases. A study by three Indian researchers in 2012 revealed that “tobacco is a leading preventable cause of death, killing nearly six million people worldwide each year. Reversing this entirely preventable man made epidemic should be our top priority. The global tobacco epidemic kills more people than tuberc
